A tribute through orchestral language
Andean tropical music finds a new space for exploration through an adaptation for classical symphony orchestra of «Chofercito» (popularly known as «Chofercito Carretero»). This arrangement seeks to pay tribute to the trajectory and endurance of Los Shapis, a fundamental group in the spread of Andean cumbia in Peru.
The authorship and legacy of a historic duo
Composed by guitarist Jaime Moreyra, the piece stands as one of the most representative works in Los Shapis' repertoire, immortalized alongside the voice of Julio Simeón («Chapulín el Dulce»). Although the ensemble formally presents itself as an orchestra with full instrumentation, the artistic bond between Moreyra and Simeón has been popularly recognized as an indivisible duo that has sustained the project over the decades.
This musical tribute highlights the values of perseverance and mutual respect that have characterized the path of its founders, bringing a melody deeply rooted in popular memory into the sonic textures of the symphonic format.
